Canada can provide an abundance of safe and secure energy for decades to come.
World energy demand is expected to increase 30 per cent by 2040 (Source: International Energy Agency World Energy Outlook 2017).
The world relies on an energy mix that includes all forms of energy - oil, natural gas, coal, hydro, nuclear and renewables. Demand for energy is expected to continue to rise because, as the world economy grows, so does the need for more energy to fuel that growth.
We need all forms of energy to meet that growing global demand. Canada is uniquely positioned to provide an abundance of safe, secure energy for decades to come. As long as we use natural gas to heat our homes, generate electricity, cook our food, and improve our quality of life, we must develop it in a way that is environmentally responsible while providing economic benefits.
The opportunity for Canada’s natural gas industry is significant.
Natural gas resource development in Canada:
- Reduces GHG emissions by 40 per cent in electrical power generation compared to coal-powered electricity
- Is a great partner in renewables when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing
- Provides jobs
- Provides revenue to provincial and federal governments through royalties and taxes, monies used to pay for things that are important to Canadians such as:
- Health care
- Social services
